Analysis of Title Sequences

The Incredible Hulk
The title sequences of "Incredible Hulk" is one where any audience can gather what is going on and the plot of the story very easily. The audience already knows that the Hulk is known for its muscular green body and the title sequence does exactly this and introduces the audience with a splash of green chemicals. The sequence starts of with pictures of X-Rays which suggests to the audience that some sort of science lab work is going on. The clip of the red blood pumping in the body backs this idea. Mise En Scene is used effectively here to show what is going on. The track that is played is non diegetic sound which is good because it creates an intense mood. There is a climax to this track which ends on the actual title of the film "The Incredible Hulk". This then picks up  a pace but this time showing actual footage from the film which is important because its the scene in which "The Hulk" is made. The first character who we are introduced to is the protagonist and the main character of the film. The Hulk is shown on the chair with scientific gadgets which enforces the sense of some sort of test subject. The title sequence producers does well to represent a love story between two characters, as we see Edward Norton (The Hulk) winking at who seems to be his fiancĂ©. Straight after this the sequence use the technique of foreshadowing by showing the word "DANGER" in red. This tells the audience that something bad is about to happen. In addition to this, most of the audience would've already known what was going to happen because the "Hulk" is known for his 'Green' and 'Muscular' body. After turning into the "Hulk" the idea of a relationship between the two characters is enforced as the first person he looks at is her. The sequence producers uses the distorted vision of the "Hulk" to show that he is different to Human. The point of view shot helps explain that he has a different sight as well as creating some sort of urgency because the audience doesn't see him as the Hulk. The audience also will understand that the Hulk is self conscience by seeing that he wasn't actually hurting the person he cares for. Straight after, he shows that he is tempered by hurting the others in the room. The sequence editors does a great  job by showing how the "Hulk" turns back into being human through the use of showing the blood stream in the body. As shown in the beginning, the blood turned from red to green but this time it turned from green to red. This is a good way of explaining because the audience we recall scenes they saw before. Using the technique of flash it tells the audience of a love story. The use of newspapers tells the story of the "Hulk" by zooming into the news headlines. The use of maps also suggests that people are looking for with the main antagonist being William Hurt (the old man with the beard). The sequence concludes with the search for the "Hulk"

Love Actually
At the beginning of the title sequence of the film 'Love Actually' the viewers are introduced to people who are at an airport which is later identified as Heathrow Airport. The producers use "The voice of God" to narrate the title. The voice explains that whenever he feels down he likes to think about the airport and how people greet each other and this is the time where 'real love' is witnessed. This clearly identifies the genre of the film because of how romantic and loving scenes are used through the use of people kissing and hugging. The narrator makes the point that no one talked or showed hate one another when 9/11 happened and the only thing that people were doing was showing love through the use of "phone calls" and "messages" The shots that are shown in the sequence all show how people are showing love to one and another which backs up the narrators voice. On the other hand, the audience is still not introduced to the other genre of the film which is comedy. The most vital components of the creation team was presented to the audience which was; The Distribution company, The Production company and The Association  company. No actors or actresses were introduced due to reason that the title sequence producer didn't want to divert the audience attention from the main purpose of the sequence. The medium shot is used to show what is going on in the whole scene. What the audience can gather through the medium shot is that they can see  what is going on and how people approach each other with love and affection, once again reinforcing the genre of 'romance' and 'love'

Se7en
The title sequence of se7en is one where is different to many others as the title editor can get a message across very easily by showing only certain things. The music creates an eerie feeling as it give a sense of being watched, highlighting the psychological thriller genre. The backed up noises suggests a sense of danger and insecurity, which backs the idea of helplessness as well as giving it a thriller feeling. The mise en scene is also to take notice as the sequence does not include any long shots of the setting which creates tension for the audience. The props used in the opening could be associated with investigations and detective works. This is enforced by the props which are the books, files, pens and paper. Most if not all of the shots are close up shots so they take up most of the frame, which creates suspense and urgency as the audience don't know who the man is. All of the shots are dark which connotes danger and tension. Most of the colours that are used are black and white. The transitions between cuts also creates an eerie feel, and the way it fades to black reflects the sincerity  and the dark mood of the film. The shots are mostly short as well as some being in slow motion giving them a slower pace. As the sequence comes to an end, it creates tension for the audience. The titles that are written appear in a front that resembles handwriting. The text appears in white so it can contrast with the darker background.
